The Best Drugstore Primers for Color Correction

Primers are designed to smooth and blur fine lines and wrinkles.  Truth be told, I’m not the biggest fan of makeup primers, and finding quality drugstore primers is proving to be a real challenge.

The best drugstore primers for me tend to be lighter formulas, and usually ones that offer benefits besides simply smoothing my complexion.

Most primers are just fine for smoothing pores and fine lines, but color correcting primers have an added bonus.  They can also help to even your skin tone before you apply even a drop of foundation.

When my skin looks dull, I love a pink primer!

But let’s say you’re already on the rosy side, maybe redness is your issue.  You would want to try the green primer.  Believe it or not, the hint of green will help to cancel out redness.

Don’t be scared by the picture, the primer is sheer when applied.  There’s just a hint of pink to brighten my complexion.

There are other primers to address a variety of different needs:

Yellow: Illuminates fair to medium complexions
Green: Neutralizes redness
Pink: Gives luminosity to dull skin
Peach: Restores the healthy glow of medium to dark complexions
Blue: Brightens sallowness in fair complexions

There are some high-end color correcting primers out there, but if you don’t want the financial investment, then try the primers from NYX.

As I mentioned before, I like a lighter formula, and this one from NYX feels silky and light.  This pink primer is great for smoothing my fine lines and pores, while also brightening my complexion with a hint of a pink glow.

Brightening up my complexion is especially important to me in the winter time, when my complexion can take on a dull look.  In the summer, I can get a little sun and that makes me look healthy — it gives me a glow.  In the winter, I look so pale and dull.  A slightly rosy hue under my foundation can actually help.

I am so happy to have found a new pink primer!  My last favorite was discontinued, and I’ve been on the hunt for a new, affordable option.  Here it is!
