It’s a problem for so many women: How to cover dark circles.  Pictures of women with triangles and dots of concealer under their eyes to cover dark circles are all over Pinterest.  The tutorials claim that applying concealer in a triangle formation is more effective than applying in a crescent shape.  Could this be true for a woman in her 40’s?

Could the triangles really be the key to covering dark circles?

The Point of the Triangle

Applying concealer in a triangle is supposed to give your face an instant lift, drawing everything upward.  Also, the color is said to blend more naturally, so you don’t have a lighter color ONLY under your eyes…as in the crescent application.

My Eye-Pothesis

I’ve never used the Triangle Method because it requires a lot of makeup applied directly on top of where I have wrinkles, right under my eyes.  Makeup is squeezed into the wrinkles when I squint or smile, and then it gathers and stays there, making the wrinkles look worse.

Hypothesis: The Triangle Method would accentuate the wrinkles on my over-40 face.  It might work for younger people, but not for me.

Eye-Opening Results

The triangle method turned out to be The Bermuda Triangle for my dark circles. They disappeared!

I liked the way it looked and I don’t think it made me look any more wrinkly.  It added much needed light to the area, giving it a lifted look.  Who knew…geometry actually CAN solve real-life problems.

NOTE:  Not all concealers worked for me with this method.  Creamy ones worked best.

I experimented with different concealers, and the one I liked best was Josie Maran Argan Creamy Concealer Crayon.  The Argan Oil in the Josie Maran concealer helped the concealer not dry down too fast and it added moisture to the area.

Don’t use makeup with glitter or sparkle when applying in the triangle method.

For me, the Triangle Method is great for an evening look, not for an all-day look.

At the end of the day, the concealer started to look patchy, gathered in wrinkles a bit, and had a touch of that “sand-blasted” look.  I really do think any concealer is going to do that.  The Josie Maran held up better than others I tried.

So I’ll be using the Triangle Method, but not exclusively.
There’s still room in this love triangle for the Crescent Method.
