“Make It Quick” : Eye Makeup Tips For Over 40
Most days I need a quick, easy makeup routine to get me out the door on time. I am one of those people who does not leave the house without at least some makeup on. So, I thought I’d write up a quick review on two NYX Cosmetics products that quickly give my eyes an instant lift. It’s a bonus that they’re both cheap.
NYX Eyebrow Shaper
Do not ever underestimate the power of your eyebrows to give your eyes a lift, and to make you look “finished” or “put-together.” This pencil applicator is a blend of waxes and vitamin E.
I apply a swipe to each brow and then use an eyebrow brush/comb or clean mascara brush to comb my brows upward. The wax helps me shape them, and it helps them hold their shapes.
When I don’t have time for much else, this is PERFECT. You can’t screw it up when you’re in a hurry, because it is CLEAR! Which also makes it perfect for wearing to the gym, or even the pool. There’s no color to smudge or sweat off.
It seems like such a small thing to do, and yet it can have a big impact. Brows can add a lift to your eyes, and polish to your look.
NYX Eye Shadow Base (in skin tone)
I’ve never been a fan of eye shadow primer or base. Most of them crease up on me, look cakey, or feel heavy on my lids. I don’t wear much eye shadow, so I’ve never really needed one. Then I came across this one, and it’s a keeper. Here’s why I love it:
- It EASY to apply with my fingertips, not a lot of blending involved.
- It’s creamy, so I’m not pulling and tugging at my lids upon application. If you’re over-40, you know that eyelids don’t snap back the way they used to. Pulling on that skin can just make it look saggier, and you just never know when it will go back into place.
- Because it is a skin color, my eye area is instantly brightened! Gone are the dark sockets, replaced by lightened, lifted lids. If you are pale, and this skin tone shade is too dark for you, this is made in white and white pearl.
- Once applied, I’ve got a great canvas for eye shadow. This NYX base helps the shadow last longer, and holds it in place. Less shifting of color means less creasing.
- I do a quick swipe over each lid, then apply a shadow. If I’m in a hurry, a light neutral shadow will do.
The color looks dark in the pot, but it’s actually pretty light when applied. Check out the video below to see what I mean.
NYX is a firm, go-to brand for me now. I have tried TONS of their products. I don’t like them all, but I do like most of them. I am always surprised at the high quality of their products for such a relatively low price.
These two products are effective time-savers. They give an instant lift to the eye area with very little effort, and very little money.
