Highlighters can illuminate all the wrong things…like all my wrinkles!

I’ve been seduced by the sparkle of highlighters, only to be betrayed by them.  The glitter is supposed to give your skin a glowing, luminous look.  And I’m sure it does…if you are in your 20’s.

At a certain age, glitter might look good when you first apply it, but eventually those tiny little sparkles sneak into all the lines on your face.  Actually highlighting them!  Think about it, they reflect light. When a beam of sunlight hits your face, that glitter will highlight every bump, sag and wrinkle.  Making your face look like a topographical map.

Laura Mercier

If you crave sparkle, try Laura Mercier Shimmer Blocs (available on Amazon.)  Color palettes include gorgeous pinks, golds, and peach colors. Each compact contains four shades of natural colors that seem almost sheer and when light hits them they have just the right amount of shimmer.  I absolutely love them as eye shadow.

I have also found it helpful to keep any sparkle away from the corners of my eyes.  That skin can’t handle any glitter without making me look 10 years older.

Unlike most glittery eye shadows, these don’t highlight the crepe-ish quality of my eyelids.

This product is not limited to eyes, it’s a multi-tasker!  I use a fan brush to apply just a dusting on my cheekbones, careful to smile in the mirror and avoid dusting them over my worst wrinkles. Mix the colors to get the exact shade you want.  It adds enough sparkle to make me happy and I don’t look so flat and matte.

Shimmer Blocs are quite literally brilliant!
